Humanities and Social Sciences HaSS SA Teacher Awards
HASS SA members may nominate a School Educator for HaSS SA Outstanding Contribution to the Teaching of Humanities and Social Sciences Awards. This Award is presented annually at the Educators SA World Teachers Day Ceremony in late October each year.
This award recognises a teacher’s outstanding contributions to the education of students in Humanities and Social Sciences in South Australia. Nominees must be based in a school and considered a member of the teaching staff of that school.
Awards are open to all South Australian teachers of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Foundation to Year 12.
Nominees must demonstrate evidence of:
- Participation in professional development activities in HASS as a facilitator and/or participant and continuous development as an effective HASS educator;
- Promoting student engagement in HASS by providing an environment that stimulates student curiosity and interest in HASS;
- Developing and/or using innovative instructional material or innovative approaches to teaching HASS;
- Being a positive role model for other teachers of HASS within their school/work site and/or beyond.

Pre-service Teacher Awards
Each year HASS SA presents teacher pre-service awards, one each to the mostly highly recommended primary and secondary pre-service teacher at each university in SA in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences. Nominations are from relevant university staff.
Leila Rankine Award for Excellence in SACE Stage 2 Aboriginal Studies
Each year HASS SA presents an award to the highest achieving student in SACE Aboriginal Studies as well as an award to their teacher for excellence in teaching. The award is usually presented at the annual HASS SA conference when the student is invited to make a short speech. 2018 was the first year that the award was achieved by an Aboriginal student.
